Subject: Helios / The Crawling Chaos Application
Date: 7/23/2016
Callsign: Helios
Steam: The Crawling Chaos
Steam ID URL: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Helios932/
AGE: 23
Internet Service: 40Mbps up 11.5Mbps down
DCS Editor Experience: 30 hours. Created 4 playable missions including: Mountain Search and Destroy, Urban Airfield Defense, Combined Arms Assault. My missions were overly complex originally, but I've run an ArmA 3 clan for years and my concepts of mission design have greatly improved since then. In my experience with the DCS: Editor, I've implemented a number of borrowed community scripts including: Mechanized infantry, helicopter infantry disembarking, and others. While I haven't touched the DCS Editor in years (it's rather tedious) I'm sure that I could pick it up quickly to complete my application requirements at B.S.D.
Availability: Most days other than Saturdays at 2000 EST. Will vary between the week.
DCS Flight Hours: KA-50 Black Shark: 750+ Hours

Preferred Aircraft: Kamov KA-50

Expectations from BSD: Serious fun in my helicopters without annoying zoomies and everything that they ruin bring to a mission. I've always had the feeling that helicopters are largely ignored by the flight sim community, and I've had to retreat to ArmA (and real life) to get any usage out of the many hours I've spent mastering the KA-50. I hope that at the Black Shark Den, I can meet other like-minded and skilled sim-helicopter pilots who want to fly in challenging, diverse and cooperative environments. I have only been able to fly with other KA-50s 5 times in all my time owning the Black Shark since it was first released in 2008. This has been a source of significant frustration for me, and caused me to quit playing multiple times for months at a time. Here hope to not have to cater to people who want to fly planes, and fly with folks who just want rotors.

Other Information:

Skills which I may comfortably teach others:

  • Slow and Scramble Take-off, Traffic Pattern, Landing, Basic flight (KA-50)
  • Weapons Employment and countermeasures  (KA-50)
  • Datalink and Abris integration  (KA-50)
  • ABRIS and PVI-800 Waypoint integration  (KA-50)
  • Basic Attack Helicopter tactics  (KA-50)
  • Mission Design Philosophy (How to avoid overcomplex design, How to formulate a mission design)

Skills Which I need to learn from BSD:

  • Basic Editor re familiarization (FARPs, qwirks, stability issues)
  • Black Shark Den Standards for briefings, player count, any templates used by Black Shark Den for mission design

    Welcome Helios!

Nice presentation and you have a lot of experience with the KA-50, you'll fit right in!

BadCrc is on vacation this week but any of us can get you going. Let me know when is a good night for you and we can get together on TS run a introduction mission. Nothing big just a meet and greet, fly around and shoot some stuff.

You have come to the right place, we only fly rotors..No fast movers here! I'm an ex Su-27 driver and a Cliff of Dover bomber pilot. I got into the choppers a year or two ago but never really learned how to fly them, until I found the BSD. I'm still a FNG but I'm learning! We have real world chopper pilots in the mix so I am always learning something new.

Briefings can be as simple or complex as you want. Some put together a nice power point that I'm sure took as long as the mission to build!(cough Eagle cough) There isn't a template for mission that I know of. More of a you build it, we fly it.

Do you own any of the other choppers? Not a requirement just wondering. The KA-50 is my favorite but lately I've spent more time in the Huey and the Mi-8 just learning to control them.

I'm free any night just let me know when is good for you. I'm sure some of the other BSD guys will join in as well.

Thanks for taking care of this BK. Very impressed by the introduction Helios. We need mission creators badly. As BK mentioned,  I am away until beginning of August hence the lack of flights lately. Once your intro flight done,  you'll get access to the briefing room so you get an idea of the type of missions we are flying and the level of briefing. I know the overcomplex mission design syndrome. My first one was designed for 20 pilots and was a disaster.

BK,  Eagle,  you guys can set up an intro flight for Helios: cold start,  pattern,  data link use, basic radio procedures. You know, the usual stuff. We'll have a Ka50/Mi8 mission the week I am flying back to US.

Sadly, I don't own any other modules. I became very jaded with the entire DCS platform lacking another group to play with, so I never really decided to invest into any other aircraft besides the one that I had already put so much time into. After some time with BSD though, I'll probably reconsider and invest into a western aircraft.

As for the introductory flight. My schedule will be cleared up by Monday, I'll know for sure when I'll be able to sit down and have that introductory session with your fellas.  I might be free tomorrow night, but that's tentative. Is there a time that you guys are usually congregating on teamspeak?

No problem Bad, now go put your toes back in the sand! Geez you're on vacation man! :D

Helios we normally get on about 2000 to 2100 EST. No big deal right now if you don't own any other choppers, most of our missions include the KA-50 and if they don't it can be added quickly. As I said anytime this week is ok with me, whatever works best for you. Just let us know when and I will get you the TS info.

Eagle will you be free this week sometime? Moving sucks huh? XD

Awesome The Crawling Chaos we could always use more pilots and like Bad said we desperately need more content creators. I will be available all this week for any intro flights BK this last week has been pretty hectic.

I can do the flight at 2030 EST tonight if you guys are available at that time. Which is in about 2 and a half hours from now.

I will be on but I still have to remap my ka-50 controls so I may not be flying the shark tonight but regardless I will be on in either the huey or gazelle
